What fabric(s) do you use in making the pieces in your collections?

Polartec is revolutionizing how we dress our kids to go outdoors!

Polartec fabric is here and taking Darb Dunham Kids to a whole new level! A highly technical fabric, polartec is 100% polyester which is a sustainable blend of recycled material &  recycled water bottles, woven into a soft, breathable, versatile and weather resistant fleece fabric.

Polartec 200 Classic Series is a midweight fleece providing optimal warmth and comfort to all of our Darb Dunham Kids Outdoor Line Products, as of January 1, 2018. This includes our new animal line of bomber jackets, fleece pants and hats. New products are always in the works so keep in touch and check back often.

Are you committed to sustainability?

Yes! Our first step was to start making our fleece products out of Polartec fabric. It is the most technologically advanced & highest quality outerwear fabric in the marketplace to date, plus soft and durable.

It is important to us that we source as many of the products we use in making our jackets, pants and hats from sustainable companies, and as locally as possible. As stated above, our new fabric is made in the USA from recycled material, including water bottles. The embroidery on the jackets is done right here in Salt Lake City, UT and the patches are made in the state of Washington. We also make sure that not one scrap of fabric goes to the landfill, so we try to use as much as we can, and the tiny scraps go into filling stuffed animals, making fringe for our hats or into a large bucket that will be used for these things when we need it.We strive to be more resourceful and sustainable everyday because it is everyone’s responsibility.

How do I wash the jackets, pants and hats?

Simple: Throw your fleece piece in with similar colored loads, normal cycle, cold water.

To dry: low heat for 30-45 minutes or until dry. Spots may be pre-treated with stain remover if needed. One very important thing to note is NEVER iron polar fleece! It will not only melt a hole in your jacket but will ruin your iron too. If your product appears to be wrinkled, spray lightly with water and throw it in the dryer for a couple of minutes.

Who is Darb Dunham?

Darb Dunham States was my Grandmother and the main influence in why and how I do what I do. She was a character and a perfect lady all at the same time. Everything around her was stylish and beautiful. She taught me to sew when I was about 6 or so. It started out with doll clothes and by seventh grade I was designing and making my own clothes. My Grandmother’s name was the first thing that came to my mind when I started this company, Darb Dunham Ki

What makes your company unique?

Our company is unique in several ways:

1) Each piece is carefully handcrafted, one at a time rather than assembly-line style.

2) The back of the jackets are locally embroidered with designs that have been commissioned and painted from a local artist* of animals (some listed as being endangered) that have a playful quality to them, and are brave, smart and adventurous.

3) We have searched for and tested many fabrics for our products and have found POLARTEC to be the best fabric on the market for our children’s fleece jackets, hats and pants.

4) We are committed to sustainability! As stated above, this topic is very important to us and we are always looking for more and better ways to move ahead responsibly.

5) Our company is in the process of adding a couple more animals to our family, some of them are on the endangered list and some are not far behind. In 2018 and forward, our company will be donating a portion of the proceeds from the jackets to a wildlife fund that will help to feed, house and protect these animals. The actual fund has not been set up yet but we are working as fast as we can to so and we will post it on our website as soon as it happens. This is a promise we are making to these beautiful creatures.
